Yutori

Yutori

Last year on March 15th, 2018 I posted on Facebook an excerpt from an article by Naomi Shihab Nye,  Your life is a poem. It was about "yutori", a Japanese word that translates as "spaciousness". I was fascinated by the name and the concept behind it. Here is the excerpt I shared that explains the concept:
"Here in Japan, we have a concept called ‘y u t o r i,’ and it is s p a c i o u s n e s s.

It’s a kind of living with spaciousness. For example, it’s leaving early enough to get somewhere so that you know you’re going to arrive early, so when you get there, you have time to look around.”

Or — and then she gave all these different definitions of what yutori was, to her. But one of them was:

"After you read a poem, just knowing you can hold it — you can be in that space of the poem, and it can hold you in its space, and you don’t have to explain it. You don’t have to paraphrase it. You just hold it, and it allows you to see differently.” (Naomi Shihab Nye, Your life is a poem).

Little did I know that this will become the name of my website. It was during a conversation I had with my dear friend Anne (Bubble Yoga) in November 2018 that somehow it seemed that what I wanted to share can fall under this name. At that time I had a large list of possible names, including this one.

After months and months of feeling into the space of yutori, it felt right to share my offerings of Yoga & Thai Yoga Massage under this name. Enjoy & feel free to explore this space and get in touch.
